The client consulted our firm seeking intellectual property rights protection for a newly developed everyday item.
2. Solution
We conducted a prior literature search using the Japan Patent Office’s patent information platform, J-PlatPat. As a result, we found no patent documents similar to the everyday item developed by the client. However, because the item in question has a simple structure, we believed that obtaining a patent would be difficult. Therefore, we proposed utility model and design registrations.
